Season-high fourth for Mikkel Haarup at MX2 series finale

F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team’s Mikkel Haarup ended the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship on a high with a season-best fourth-placed moto in the series finale at Mantova.

The Dane continued his run of top-10 Qualifying performances to earn the eighth choice of start-gate. His KX250 shooting out of the start fifth he surrendered three positions in traffic early on but responded in style to work his way back into the top-six by half-distance and secured a creditable fourth-placed moto finish on the final lap. Another excellent start saw him run sixth for most of race two in a wheel-to-wheel battle with a podium runner. A loss of one position on the penultimate lap could not deny him fifth overall on the day and the thirty-two-point haul – his best of the season - lifted him to eleventh, just ten points shy of a top-10 ranking, in the final championship standings.

Mikkel Haarup: “It was a good last round. I rode a decent Qualifying with a lot of good quick laps and then two great starts so my results could show my speed. A good start makes all the difference; in the first race it helped me to be in a good position from the word go and I kept pushing all moto for fourth. I had another great start in the second moto and was sixth most of the race to finish seventh for fifth overall."

Bike It MTX Kawasaki’s Wilson Todd rounded out his final season in MX2 with a solid first-moto ride to tenth after qualifying twelfth in the morning. The Australian ended the championship twelfth, just twenty points short of a top-ten series ranking.

Wilson Todd: “It’s been a long season with some ups-and-downs and some rough patches so it was nice to go out with a good result before I get home to Australia for the first time in a while. Racing the GPs has been a great experience with the Bike It MTX Kawasaki Team. It’s beyond words to have been able to come to Europe to race bikes against the best in the world.”
