Double Victory at Talladega for Rocky Mountain Red Bear Kawasaki Team Green

Round 3 of the Progressive Grand National Cross Country series took place at the world-famous Talladega Superspeedway, where once again the weather played a significant factor in the day's events. Rain rolled in Saturday night and continued through most of race day, creating brutal, technical, muddy conditions. However, those exact conditions played to the strengths of Rocky Mountain Red Bear Kawasaki Team Green, as Steward Baylor remained undefeated at GNCC’s newest venue, and Nick DeFeo reclaimed the XC2 Pro points lead with his second class win of the season.

Baylor was able to get out to a good start by making up several positions in the first two corners.  He continued his charge, as he quickly moved to the front of the pack and set the pace for the entirety of the race. When the checkered flag flew, Baylor had created an almost four-minute gap between himself and second place. “When we can get a good start, we’re going to win; everybody can see it. Everybody has had a shake-up in points in the first three rounds, so we should be right within striking distance,” said Baylor.

DeFeo had a similarly dominant day in the XC2 Pro Class, taking hold of the lead on Lap 2 and charging his way around the track for the better part of the three hours. DeFeo was able to put a two-minute gap on second place and take home the class victory, while finishing sixth overall. “I was pushing a little too hard on the first couple of laps and went down a couple of times. Once I got up to first, I just rode at my own pace. I’m happy to get the win and move back into the points lead,” said DeFeo.

XC1 Pro Class rider Josh Toth was able to rebound from last week and ride a consistent and smooth race to finish eighth in XC1 and 10th overall. Toth continues to build momentum in the series, improving his results each week.

Next up, the team heads west to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for Round 2 of the Redline Oils AMA American National Enduro Championship.
