Alcoba Charges from the Back to Podium Glory at Estoril
Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) delivered a spectacular weekend at Circuito Estoril, overcoming tough starting positions to secure his first-ever podium in the FIM Supersport World Championship aboard the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636.
After qualifying 24th in Friday’s Superpole session—just 1.254 seconds from the leader—Alcoba lined up on the eighth row for Saturday’s 18-lap Race One. Showing incredible pace and precision, he sliced through the field, reaching the top ten within six laps and finishing seventh. Despite missing out on a third-row grid spot for Race Two, his performance was a clear sign of what was to come.
“I knew the comeback was possible, and we did it,” said Alcoba. “This morning I felt super good with the bike and confident. I took risks early, kept my focus, and the pace was amazing—it felt like I could fight for the victory.”
On Sunday, Alcoba once again stormed through the pack—this time all the way to the podium. Starting 25th, he climbed position after position to take third place, less than a second from second place and just over 3.5 seconds behind race winner and new World Champion Stefano Manzi. He also set the fastest lap of the race with a 1’39.868, marking both his and Kawasaki’s first WorldSSP podium since 2023, and the 167th overall for the manufacturer in the category.
“Today we took our first podium, and I feel amazing because it’s been a long time since I’ve been in Parc Fermé,” Alcoba said. “I promised myself I’d earn a podium before the season ended. Starting 25th again wasn’t easy, but I told myself I’d do better in Race Two. The team made another big step with the setup, and the pace was incredible. I was passing everywhere and just enjoying it like a kid. I only want to thank everyone who believes in me.”
With his podium finish, Alcoba now sits ninth overall in the championship standings with 159 points—just ten points away from eighth—as he heads to the final round of the 2025 season at Jerez, Spain, on October 17–19.
