Rocky Mountain Red Bear Kawasaki Team Green Conquers the Rocks in Pennsylvania

Rocky Mountain Red Bear Kawasaki Team Green  battled the slippery and treacherous Pennsylvania terrain to reign supreme at the Rattlesnake National Enduro. The weekend introduced a brand-new Super Test to the National Enduro. The test featured head-to-head racing as two riders lined up side by side to complete two timed laps through a course. An over-under section moves the rider to the other lane after Lap 1. This test counts as the first of seven for the total event score.

Steward Baylor set the tone on Saturday’s Super Test track. Baylor set the second fastest time, only one second off the leader in the Pro 1 Class. He proceeded to win all but two tests on Sunday, bringing home the overall win. “I felt good today. I think it was an advantage to be on the row behind Josh [Toth] as I could see his lines and adjust mine. My Pirelli tires were amazing in the slick rocks out there. I’m stoked to win this one,” said Baylor.

Josh Toth entered the race sharing the points lead with his teammate Baylor, with hopes to take the sole lead. Although he kept it close and even won a test, it wasn’t quite his day. He finished a commendable second place in the Pro 1 Class. “I had a big crash out there in Test 3. I ended up tangled in the bike and all scratched up. It was gnarly out there. I made too many mistakes to keep up with Stew [Baylor]. I’m happy to be able to walk out of here in one piece because I have a big month ahead of me,” said Toth. Toth will take the summer break to race the EnduroGP of Wales next weekend and represent the United States at the International Six Days of Enduro in Italy at the end of August.

Grant Baylor had an up-and-down day, finishing fifth in the Pro 1 Class. “It just took me too long to get going. I got smoked at the beginning but came around at the end, getting close to winning some tests. I’ll be better at the next one,” said Baylor.

Nick DeFeo fought hard, but took third in the Pro 2 Class. “I won the Super Test, which was unreal! I just rode too cautious on Sunday. Once I figured out how to ride the rocks, I got closer, but this wasn’t my best round.  I’m still excited to be on the podium,” said DeFeo.

Rachael Archer took some spills but still finished in a strong third place in Women’s Elite. “It was tough out there. I fell a few times and struggled to get in the flow. The Pennsylvania rocks are no joke! I’m looking forward to the next one,” said Archer.

The team races again on September 7 at the Buckwheat 100 Grand National Cross Country race in West Virginia.
