Sixth Pole Of The Season For Roan van de Moosdijk

The FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship culminated at Pietramurata in the Trentino region of Italy with the sixth pole of the season for Roan van de Moosdijk of the F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team.

The Dutch youngster started the day with his sixth pole of the season to complete a unique perfect season of eighteen straight top-three placings in the timed session; his fastest lap time was nearly a second faster than anybody else. Already assured of seventh in the world championship in his rookie GP season the twenty-year-old was carrying a sore thumb from a crash on Wednesday and was already unsure pre-race if he would be able to maintain his proven pace for the entire thirty-minute-plus-two-lap race distance. Closed down out of the gate in the opening moto he emerged twelfth from turn two but quickly advanced to tenth by the end of the first lap and was ninth after two laps. For half the race he hung onto a train of riders chasing fifth before inevitably being forced to slacken his pace slightly from half-distance whilst comfortably controlling his ninth place to the finish. With his championship ranking, a secure team and rider decided to sit out race two.

Roan van de Moosdijk: “Finally another pole position; I was so close the first two races here and now I finally made it. After I set the fast lap I rode some normal laps and I felt my thumb becoming more painful again. I took some painkillers before the race and again after a not-so-good start I came back inside the top ten but after five or six laps I started to feel pain again and I needed to slow down. I still finished ninth but when I came back in the team truck we decided to not race the second moto because I had nothing to win and nothing to lose in the championship and I might end up doing more damage. So unfortunately my season ended after the first moto but it is what it is. I’ve had some ups-and-downs but I am quite satisfied with my rookie GP season; five podiums and a moto win in Lommel have been the highlights. Now we look ahead positively to 2021; I just need to minimize the mistakes and get out of the gate up front next year.“

F&H colleagues Mathys Boisrame (twice) and Mikkel Haarup (once at the season opener) added GP podium trophies to the team tally before injury eliminated each of them mid-season but they were still ranked thirteenth and nineteenth in the final series points standings. The Frenchman and the Dane are both currently in recuperation and will be ready to return stronger than ever next year together with van de Moosdijk.

DRT Kawasaki’s Wilson Todd claimed a solid fifteenth place in Qualifying but got dragged down in a mass collision entering the first turn. Recovering strongly to twentieth by the end of the first lap he advanced to eighteenth on lap three but a fall on lap ten put him back out of the points; again moving forward strongly he narrowly missed a points score in twenty-first at the finish. The Australian had better fortune in race two; eighteenth at the start he had advanced to fourteenth at half-distance and was thirteenth at the finish to equal his best result of an abbreviated season.

Kawasaki privateer Jimmy Clochet proved the competitiveness of the Green customer bikes this week in Italy with two overall in three rounds of the FIM Europe EMX Open Motocross Championship; he took four moto victories of six aboard his out-of-the-crate KX450. In the remaining motos he added a second-place despite two falls to secure the overall on the day while a first-turn crash in one moto on Tuesday could not prevent him from reaching a sixth-placed championship ranking even though he only contested the second half of the series.

Jimmy Clochet: “It’s great to win two rounds of the Open championship and to hear the Marseillaise here twice! At the second round on Tuesday, I lost all my chances with a crash at the start of one moto, but with four moto wins and one second position in the six races, it was a perfect week for me! Now I’d like to have the chance to do the full series next year"
