Gerloff Fights Through the Field to Score Points at Magny-Cours
Kawasaki WorldSBK Team’s Garrett Gerloff battled adversity at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, charging from the very back of the grid in all three races and salvaging championship points with 11th place in Race Two.
A crash during Saturday’s Superpole Qualifying session forced Gerloff to start both of Sunday’s races from the last row. In the 10-lap Superpole Race, he made rapid early progress but with limited laps to recover, he crossed the line in 14th—just outside the crucial top nine that would have improved his starting position for Race Two.
Lining up once again from the back of the grid for the 21-lap finale, Gerloff mounted a determined comeback. Carving through the pack, he advanced into the points-paying positions and ultimately finished 11th, overtaking half the field in the process. The result delivered his first points of the weekend.
After nine of 12 rounds, Gerloff sits 16th in the overall WorldSBK standings with 72 points. The championship continues at MotorLand Aragón, Spain, on September 26–28.
Garrett Gerloff:
“I have to apologize to the team again because this was not the weekend we were hoping for. I wanted to make more progress in the Superpole Race and get into the top nine to improve my grid spot, but it was tough. Locatelli and I started from the last row and battled together through both races, making similar progress. Fourteenth in the Superpole Race and 11th in Race Two wasn’t what I wanted, but now we look ahead to Aragón. I really want to finish the year with some stronger results.”
