Alcoba Finds Misfortune In Final Balaton Race
FIM Supersport World Championship rider Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) was knocked off in the early stages of the final 18-lap WorldSSP race at Balaton Park in Hungary, just as he was settling into his race pace and going in search of even more championship points.
Riding his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636 machine, Jeremy had started the final race before the summer break from 13th place on the grid, then quickly moved into ninth place in the first few corners.
At Turn Six on the second lap, another rider made contact with Jeremy’s machine and he fell, ending his realistic chances of scoring points. After inspecting his bike, he opted to continue in the race to gain some valuable information for his team to work with over the forthcoming summer break.
Race Two was the first race this year in which Jeremy has not scored points of some kind, so it was particularly unlucky for him and his team as his first no-score came after a contact with another rider.
The intense 4.075km long Balaton Park circuit was used by WorldSSP for the first time this weekend, and provided an intense challenge for all classes, with many slower speed corners and three significant chicanes.
Jeremy had scored two points in the first Balaton WorldSSP race on Saturday, 26 July, and he is still eighth in the championship, now with a total of 107 points.
A summer break of five weekends in competitive action will now take place before WorldSSP gets going again between 5 - 7 September, at the regular WorldSSP venue of Magny Cours in France.
Jeremy Alcoba stated: “It was a difficult weekend for us in Hungary as we did not find a good feeling at the end. We struggled a little bit in both races. Today I tried to be at the front early in the race. I did not make a good start but in the first corner I was lucky and went into P9. But on the second lap, another rider touched me and I crashed. We were unlucky. I tried to pick up the bike and make some laps to understand some things for the next races. I am happy for the information we took at the end but the weekend was not so good because now it is the summer break and we could not have a good result to enjoy. I will try to make a reset to be focused in the next one. Thanks to all the team for the effort and the work that they put in.”
