Febvre and Kawasaki Extend MXGP Championship Leads with Dominant Win at Matterley Basin

Romain Febvre and the Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP extended their lead in both the Riders’ and Manufacturers’ standings of the FIM Motocross World Championship with a commanding performance at Matterley Basin in southern England. Febvre secured his fourth Grand Prix win of the season and celebrated his 11th podium in 12 rounds.

In the opening moto, the Frenchman converted a sixth-place start into fifth on the first lap. With all of the championship contenders setting a fierce pace up front, overtaking opportunities were limited. Febvre eventually passed Fernandez for fourth on lap nine of sixteen, then moved into third four laps later. The leaders remained mistake-free, and Febvre crossed the finish line in third.

The KRT team made key technical adjustments ahead of race two, which immediately paid off. Febvre launched out of the gate for a clear holeshot—his fourth of the season—and led every lap of the moto. Posting the fastest lap times of the weekend, he steadily pulled away from the field, sealing the overall victory and extending his championship lead to 32 points. Kawasaki also strengthened its advantage in the Manufacturers’ standings.

A special moment concluded the podium ceremony, as Kawasaki Europe Managing Director Shigemi Tanaka San had the honor of presenting the winner’s trophy to Febvre.

Romain Febvre:
“I actually had a really good jump in the first moto. The track was harder than expected, and I went with a different tire that didn’t give me the grip I needed on the straight. I stayed close to the front guys, but they had just a little more pace in key areas. For the second race, we switched back to my usual tires and made small suspension changes—it gave me more traction. I grabbed the holeshot, and that changed everything. I could ride freely, take my own lines, and control the race—even when Fernandez pushed hard toward the end. The top five are all so close in speed, so getting a good start is crucial.”
