Final Round Sees Öncü Sixth

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing riders Can Öncü and Philipp Öttl finished the last race of the 2021 WorldSSP championship season in sixth and ninth place respectively, after another thrilling and entertaining spectacle.

With spots of rain starting to fall at the start of the 19-lap race the track conditions finally remained dry, allowing Öncü to take the early race lead and hold it for six laps.

Can would eventually get passed by Federico Caricasulo and ride in second place until lap 12, when a small mistake entering the final section saw him down to sixth place.

Teenager Öncü would hold that position to the end, scoring more valuable championship points and learning more lessons to take into another season with the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team in 2022.

From a starting position of seventh on the grid Öttl was unable to get away with the leading riders, being relegated to 12th place on lap one.

Philipp moved forward as the race progressed and finished his season with a ninth place. Philipp was the top Kawasaki rider in the 2021 WorldSSP series, having scored seven podium finishes along the way.

In the final championship standings Philipp is fifth overall with 252 points and Can is sixth, with 182 points.

Philipp Öttl, stated: “A difficult race again, but I would say it is a step in the right direction. I felt a little bit more comfortable overall this weekend, but the ease of riding was missing. I think it was not a bad race, but not a fantastic one. I finished the season the best Kawasaki rider, but at the moment I am a bit disappointed. We took seven podiums and a pole position, but a race win was missing. I thought in Jerez we were really close to it. I am happy with the past two years overall and happy with my guys in the team.”

Can Öncü, stated: “We did the best we could and because it was the last race of the year we tried to enjoy it a lot. I was leading for many laps but then I lost my place. We will improve the bike and aim to be champions next year. We are not here to have a holiday we are here to be champions. Now I know what I need to improve, and I will work on it all winter.”

Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura Kawasaki) was fifth in Race Two after winning on Saturday at Mandalika. He ended his season in seventh place overall and was the only rider to score a race win on the Kawasaki ZX-6R. Jeffrey Buis (G.A.P Motozoo Racing By Puccetti Kawasaki) finished 15th in the final race of the season.
