Mikkel Haarup ninth in Germany

Mikkel Haarup of the F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team claimed a solid ninth place in the German round of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at the spectacular Teutschenthal Talkessel track.

The Dane showed his pace already during the morning Qualifying as he claimed the fourth choice of gate, just one-tenth of a second off pole. However, his starts were his bogey as he rounded turn one outside the top twenty in the opening moto before showing good speed and determination to claim twelfth place at the finish. His second race was even better; thirteenth at the end of lap one he strung together a series of dramatic passes to take the chequered flag eighth and earn ninth overall on the day.

Mikkel Haarup: “My day started good with P4, just 0.1 off pole; that was my best Qualifying of the year. The track was already rough from yesterday and the ruts soon developed; I had a good flow on the track and was already very confident going into the first moto. My first start was not good, but I was riding well and made some good passes to come through to twelfth; it would be nice to have a better result but from that start that was not too bad. We made some adjustments for the second race; I moved quickly into the top ten and was eighth at the finish. The track was very technical but that suits me; you had to be patient at times because of the ruts. I was very happy with my riding today; we want to get into the top five soon!"

Bike It MTX Kawasaki’s Wilson Todd had a day of mixed fortunes. The Australian was running twelfth early in race one until he bent the gearshift pedal in a deep rut and was forced to pit for repairs. He showed admirably what he was capable of in race two as he converted another twelfth-placed start into seventh at the finish.

Wilson Todd: “I had a tough first moto. My start was OK but there were a lot of deep ruts and the gearshift got pushed up; I was stuck in second gear, so I had to pit to fix it. The second race was not too bad; I sat back for a while but then I worked forward for seventh with good speed."

Roan van de Moosdijk faced a difficult GP on the compact rutted surface as his hand continues to regain strength from a mid-season scaphoid injury; the Dutch youngster raced bravely from an initial nineteenth to finish tenth in race one but failed to finish race two.

Roan van de Moosdijk: “I still have a little pain in my hand; it’s a difficult injury to recover from. There are many lines out there but it’s still difficult to pass; you need to be up there from the beginning, and I didn’t have as good a gate-pick as usual after I had a little tip-over in practice."

Quentin Prugnières of the 9MM Energy Drink BUD Racing Kawasaki displayed tremendous spirit in both races counting for the ultra-competitive FIM European EMX250 Championship on Saturday. In his rookie season, the sixteen-year-old French youngster found himself pushed out at the first turn each time to be noted twenty-seventh and twenty-fifth respectively the first time past the timekeepers but showed his speed and potential by advancing to fourteenth at the checkered flag in each moto.
