Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green Ready for Loretta’s
Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green Ready for Loretta’s
Irvine, Calif. (July 26, 2013) – The most prestigious and anticipated amateur race of the year is upon us and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green is ready to take on the competition at this year’s AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s. Sixteen Team Green riders will compete in 15 classes and look to leave Hurricane Mills, Tenn., as champions.
Leading the Class
Team Green’s Thomas Covington heads to Loretta’s this year for the final time of his amateur career and is looking to finish off with a two additional championships on his resume. Ten years ago, Covington won his first Loretta’s No.1 plate in the 51cc 4-6 class and now will be taking on the top amateurs in the country as he lines up for Open Pro Sport and 250 A classes.

“It’s bitter-sweet heading to Loretta’s for the last time,” said Covington. “I’m more motivated than ever to take the win this year, but bummed to think I won’t be coming back. I can’t wait to get the week started and then start the next chapter in my pro career.”
Prepared and Ready
Moving up to the KX™250F is a big jump for many young riders but Team Green’s Mark Worth made it look easy. After racing his final Supermini race at the Monster Energy Cup, Worth debuted in the B class at Mini O’s and was immediately a podium contender. At his Loretta Lynn’s regional Worth easily took the win in 250 B and 250 B Limited, but a crash in his third class put him on the sidelines in late May. Worth worked hard and took the proper steps to be cleared to train and race allowing him to be ready to go after another title.

"We are very fortunate to have Mark racing at Loretta Lynn’s this year,” said Team Green Motocross Supervisor. “After his injury at the regional qualifier we made sure every step and precaution was taken to ensure he was 100-percent before returning to racing. Once we received clearance from trusted Doctors, it was time to get to work and prepare for this race."
Redemption
Last year Team Green’s Austin Forkner was the rider to beat on his KX™85. After racking up numerous spring championships, Forkner came to Loretta’s as the top dog but did not have the results he wanted or expected. This year he returns on his KX™100 in the Supermini 1 and Supermini 2 classes and hopes to clean house like many Team Green riders have done before him.

“Last year I came into Loretta’s a little under the weather,” said Forkner. “Being sick hurt my riding a bit, but this year I’m healthy and looking to come out swinging. I’ve been training a lot more this year and really feel confident.”
Making the Jump
Two of Team Green’s youngest stars are Carson Mumford and Stilez Robertson. After winning his first Loretta’s championship last year in the 65 (7-11) Modified class, Mumford has jumped up to the KX85 and is ready to prove himself at the Ranch. Robertson on the other hand, clinched his first 85cc championship at Monster Energy Mammoth Motocross this year and will be battling his teammate for the top spot in the 85 (9-11) and 85 (9-11) Limited classes.

"Moving up from the 65 to 85 class is not easy, but both Carson and Stilez have done an excellent job this year,” said Holliday. “Stilez rode fantastic at Mammoth for his first major 85 class win and Carson always peaks at Loretta’s and we expect him to be up front battling for podium finishes. In addition to Carson and Stilez, Team Green has Lance Kobusch and Garrett Marchbanks in the same class which makes for a very talented group of kids."
